No Tolerance Policy
Cheyenne Berean Church will not knowingly condone any
form of child abuse. Accusations of physical, sexual, or emotional
abuse will be investigated by the senior pastor, or his designee, as
soon as it is reported to a pastor.
Physical Abuse
PHYSICAL ABUSE is a deliberate physical injury
inflicted by any person designated and responsible for an individual
or group of children by a church official; or a physical injury
resulting from indifference, negligence or improper supervision by a
designated person. Examples of physical abuse are: the shaking of
a young child; striking with an instrument; hitting with a closed
fist; or any action which results in a welt, bruise, or other sign
of physical force.
Accusations Investigated
Accusations will be investigated immediately. A
report is to be made and presented to the official church board
regarding the investigation and action taken. Actions may include
counseling or the removal of the person from their church assigned
responsibilities. Until the issue is resolved, the responsibilities
of the person in question will be assigned to someone else.
Disagreement with how the issue is resolved may be appealed to the
elder board by either party involved.
Physical Restraint
If physical restraint is required on a child, the
action should be only with sufficient force to accomplish the
purpose of restoring order or control; for self defense; defense of
other children; or defense of church property. Force should be used
thoughtfully, carefully, and only as a last resort, unless there is
immediate concern for the safety of the child or others.
Sexual Abuse
SEXUAL ABUSE is of equal concern to the Elder Board
of Cheyenne Berean Church. No person is to touch, or allow the
touching of, any erogenous zone of any child or person. The “no
touch” policy applies to any ministry related activities regardless
of whether the activity takes place on or off of church property.
Any improper actions need to be reported to the Pastoral Staff or
Elder Board immediately. Information gained through initial
investigation is to be turned over to the appropriate legal
authority or agency if it appears that there is sufficient cause for
concern.
