The complex and orderly design of the universe is the result
of the creative activity of a personal God. To inform us about
Himself and the purpose of our existence, God gives us a reliable
book for guidance, called the Bible. This is a love letter from a
caring God. It reveals God’s desire to have a personal and
lasting relationship with us.
-
This
relationship is hindered, however, by a fatal human flaw. Deep within every
person is the defective desire to be self-serving. We all have done things that
pleased us, but did not please God. This universal trait makes it impossible to
have a healthy relationship with God. As well, the fair character of God
requires that He hold every person accountable for all self-serving attitudes
and actions.
-
In an astonishing act of mercy, God has
provided a solution to this “sin problem.” The solution is not found in a
person doing good, being self-righteous or following religious rituals. It
is found in a person, the historical and living Jesus Christ. Since it is
sin that puts distance between us and God, God has had His Son remove the
barrier of sin by His own death and resurrection.
-
When we acknowledge our sinfulness and place our complete
confidence in Jesus Christ as the Savior who paid the penalty for
our sins, the distance between us and God is removed. The act of
faith makes it immediately possible for us to enter into a
personal relationship with God that is both satisfying and
lasting. To nurture this new relationship the Bible encourages us
to meet regularly together with others who follow Christ to honor
God with music, Bible study and prayer.
