There are several types of Biblical counseling depending upon the nature and severity of the counseling need.  Some counseling will require pastoral involvement, while much will not.  Actually there are times when a lay counselor can share the same advice but with greater impact. The following are some areas of counseling.

Preaching

  • Many times the preaching ministry meets many general spiritual and temporal counseling needs.

Focus Groups

  • During these gatherings personal, family, and job concerns are shared and much lay shepherding and counseling is implemented.

Marriage Counseling Assistants

  • There are numerous people who marriage counseling at CBC.  They each take a specific area and spend an evening with the counselees.

Baptismal Counseling

  • A pastor spends from 30-60 minutes with baptismal candidates.

Pastoral Wisdom Counseling

  • This is usually a one time counseling session that is typically focused on the personal growth of someone who has a desire to know Christ in a deeper way and usually involves some aspect of knowing the will of God.

Pastoral Crisis Counseling

  • This is usually a series of sessions concerning a singular issue such as death, marriage conflict, divorce, a negative habit, etc.

Professional Christian Counseling

  • Some issues are of such a nature that it is best to transfer the counselee to a Christian professional.  Pastors at CBC make a distinction between pastoral and professional counseling.  Counseling Issues that extended beyond four sessions are often referred to trusted Christian counselors in the area. Some obvious exceptions are pre-marital counseling, mentoring and discipleship.
