Eldon Sandin Obituary, June 22, 2006-06-22


On March 23 of 1928 Eldon E. Sandin was born in northeast Nebraska in a country Home at Closter, to Christine and Sigfred Sandin. He worked on the family farm and attended a one room country school until his senior year where he went to Wheaton Academy in Wheaton, Illinois. He returned home to farm for a couple of years. He graduated after three years from Omaha Bible Institute.

A year later he married Marian Gustafson of Bessemer, Michigan at Maranatha Bible Camp in Maxwell, Nebraska on August 19, 1949. They then worked with Dr. Ivan Olsen in the North Platte Berean Fundamental Church for two years. They moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years and worked in some secular jobs while leading the choir in the Powderhorn Park Baptist Church. Their first pastorate was in northwest Iowa in a country setting at the Grant Bible Church. In 1956 God called them to the Berean church in Haxtun, Colorado. There the new church building was built under Eldon’s ministry. In October 1981, they moved to Yreka, California to lead a newly formed Bible study and to build a new church building. After ministering there for nine years they moved to Scottsbluff, Nebraska in August of 1970 to work with Pastor Goltz as the associate and choir director. Following thirteen years of ministry there, they came to Cheyenne, Wyoming in January of 1983. They worked with Ron Smithgall in the Berean Church until 1987 as an associate pastor and choir director. After working for the state of Wyoming for a few years they joined Pastor Crocker and staff as visitation pastor and helped with church maintenance in 2001. He retired from the staff but continued to teach Sunday School until 2005. After suffering a slight heart attack and stroke on December 20, 2005 and then again on May 17, 2006, he went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2006.

Eldon Sandin is survived by wife, Marian of Cheyenne; son, Eugene Sandin of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; daughter, Beth Ann and husband, Rodger Rodriguez of Sidney, Nebraska; grandchildren, Alex Padia of Sidney, Nebraska, Valorie Padia of Sidney, Nebraska, Ian Rodreguez of Sidney, Nebraska; and Eli Rodriguez of Lincoln, Nebraska; great granddaughter Braxton of Sidney; brothers, Milton Sandin of Greeley, Colorado; Dale Sandin of Ingram, texas; Martin Sandin of Lincoln, Nebraska, Marcellus Sandin of Ingram, Texas, Jim Sandin of Lincoln, California.

He was preceded in death by parents, Sigred and Christine Sandin of Newman Grove, Nebraska and sister, Lenora Irving of Glen Ellen, Illinois.

Eldon E. Sandin
1928-2006

Eldon E. Sandin, 78, went home to be with the Lord on June 19 at Life Care Center.

He was born March 23, 1928, in Closter, Neb., to Sigfred and Christine Sandin.

Mr. Sandin graduated from Wheaton Academy in Wheaton, Ill., and attended the Omaha Bible Institute.

He married Marian A. Gustafson on Aug. 19, 1949, at Maranatha Bible Camp in Maxwell, Neb. Mr. Sandin began in the Lord's service at Maranatha Bible Camp and later pastored at Grant Bible Church, Haxton Berean Fundamental Church, Yreka California Berean Fundamental Church, Scottsbluff Berean Fundamental Church, and the Cheyenne Berean Fundamental Church.

He is survived by his wife, Marian A. Sandin of Cheyenne; a son, Eugene E. Sandin of Scottsbluff, Neb.; a daughter, Beth A. Rodriguez of Sidney, Neb.; five brothers, Milton Sandin of Greeley, Colo., Dale Sandin of Ingram, Texas, Martin E. Sandin of Lincoln, Neb., Marcellus Sandin of Ingram, and Jim Sandin of Lincoln, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Mr. Sandin is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lenora Irving.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Cheyenne Berean Church with Rev. Richard Crocker officiating.

Interment will follow at Beth El Cemetery.

Casket bearers are Kent Ewing, Pete Remster, Tom Logan, Don Knots, Dale Mullikin, and Lee Muhr.

Friends may contribute to the Maranatha Bible Camp in Maxwell, Neb. in his name.
